Frequently Asked Questions

Please click the questions below to find more information on Volunteer Stays.

What is the difference between Free and Premium Memberships?

When you register as a Volunteer, you have the option of creating a free profile (Free Membership) or purchasing a Premium Membership for an enhanced experience.

When you register as a Stay, you are automatically given a Premium Membership.

Do I have to decide on my Membership right away?

You can create a profile, and upgrade from a Free to a Premium Membership at any time for a small donation. Simply log into your Dashboard and go into your Account Settings » Membership. Premium Memberships are valid for one year. Note that if your Premium Membership expires, you will be downgraded to Free Member status until you renew.

How do I update or hide my profile?

Login and go to your Dashboard. Have a look at the different menu options; you can renew your membership, and update your personal account information here. You can also edit your public profile and even hide it from searches if you need a break from being contacted.

Note that certain information such as your email address, mailing address, and phone number will not be publicly displayed on our website and Members are not allowed to advertise this information in their profile. This is to protect both you and our business.

If I hide my profile does my Membership last longer?

No. Your Premium Membership will still expire one year from the date of registration.

Note that inactive accounts (Free or Premium members who haven't logged in for more than a year) may be deleted. This is to keep our listings current.

What happened to my account?

It's possible your profile is hidden from public view and searches. Please log in and check you Dashboard to make sure you didn't hide your profile.

It's also possible that your account was deleted by VolunteerStays administration. We always send out an email notification before removing inactive accounts. If you haven't logged in for more than a year, it may be possible that your account was deleted. We reserve the right to remove inactive accounts in order to keep our listings current.

Is there an age limit for being a Volunteer?

You need to be a least 18 to be a Volunteer. There is no upper age limit as long as you can do the activities required.

What about insurance?

In case of injury, illness, or loss, we highly recommend some kind of personal / travel insurance. Check your policy to see if you're covered for specific activities, such as horseback riding or scuba diving. Some hosts may insist that you have insurance and will require proof. We highly recommend that all Volunteers take out an adequate insurance policy and that Stays also hold insurance to cover any work related incident.

VolunteerStays accepts no liability and will not be held responsible in any way for work, Volunteer or Stay related incidents under any circumstances.

Can VolunteerStays assist with visas or travel expenses?

Volunteers must make their own visa and travel arrangements. Please get in touch with your consulate\embassy prior to departure. VolunteerStays and hosts will not assist with visa applications or contribute towards a Volunteer's travel expenses.

It should be remembered that VolunteerStays.com provides an international listing of Volunteers and Stays for the purpose of introducing travelers and hosts for short-term work exchanges. All arrangements are your own.

Can I donate, even if I already have a Premium Membership?

Absolutely! Your donations help keep this website running.

Can I buy a Premium Membership for someone as a gift?

Not at this time.
